Yes, I know I skipped last months blog chain. I was sick, remember? But I wasn’t going to miss this one.  A bit shorter than usual but it is the season, so lets gets started. First, the instructions:

This month’s prompt:
250-Word Story Chain, or, The Blog-O-Phone

Sort of a mini version of the story chain we did some time ago, each blogger will add 250 words (or less) to an an ongoing holiday story. Please post a proposed story idea when you sign up!

This time your entry must be short fiction; there is a hard cap of 250 words for each entry.

And now unto the story:

Oswald took the long way round to the Wiggins property, through freezing ankle deep snow. He wanted the best tree and those were on this side of the forest.

“Damned that harpy! I shouldn’t have said anything,” he said between shattering teeth and billowing clouds of condensation that poured out of his cracked lips and frozen nose.

He should have kept quite about his nuptials. Nobody at work cared about it, except his boss. The old bat delighted in snuffing every last bit of joy out of her employees. Newlyweds were extra tasty morsels of misery for the old hag.

“But we don’t have to stay. We can go to our parent’s house in Ft. Lauderdale. Maybe spend New Years there,” Mary said.

And risk a sudden, unannounced and totally uninvited visit from the in-laws? Hell no! No, they were staying home and having a wonderful Xmas, tree and all, dammit!

Ozzy spotted the right tree in the distance and made a beeline to it. As he swung the brand new axe at it, a basso profondo roar erupted behind him.

“That can’t be good.”
