June 2013 Blog Chain: Lord of the Flies

Tweet of the Day: Odd Episodes from History

——-

Summer is here and with it comes another Blog Chain, so lets see what this month brings us:

Starting Date: Saturday June 1, 2013
Open to all forum members, even after it starts!

This month’s prompt:
Bugs

Yep. Bugs. Simple and easy. Prose, poetry, play. Fiction, nonfiction. It’s all good, all bugs.

Instructions:
Simply post your blog’s URL in this thread to join. I’ll let you know in this thread when it’s your turn. Once your turn comes up, you have two days to complete a blog post using the prompt. When you are finished, please add a link to your post on the thread.
If you signed up but find yourself unable to participate or need to be moved around in the schedule, please PM me or post in the thread. If you fail to post on your blog and on the thread within two days, I’ll bump you down to the end of the line on the third day; you’ll get a second chance at the end of the month.

Each post should be less than 1000 words if possible. Read and comment on other participants’ posts if you possibly can–they’ll be doing the same for you! Please include a list of all participants’ blogs (not necessarily their actual posts for the month) in your blog post.

Wings buzzed inches from his ear.

Antennae floated over his eye ball.

Clawed feet dug into his skin.

It chittered and flew off to joined its master. The master was a mass of bone and skin, covered in all manner of insects, from flies to moths. His flesh smelled of hidden, putrid things. Maggots scrawled underneath the skin in deep ruddy pustules. They burst out in wriggling bloody red masses and joined their brethren at the masters feet.

A deep voiced emanated from cracked lips, “Good work Jared. You have done well by Ba’al, and a Lord does not forget his fateful servants.”

Jared averted his gaze from the fly covered mouth. He cursed himself for opening the jar he found in the cave. This was no place for a backpacker, miles away from the comfort of home. His mother warned him that the place was dangerous: civil wars, religious extremists, political instability. But Jared wanted to walked in the footsteps of the ancients. Now an ancient god stared down at his soul.

“Do not worry, my dear Jared. We simply wish to return this sacred land to its origins, the way it was before our wayward brother, the usurper claimed to be one and only Ba’al and banished us to the Forgotten. But answer me this, young Jared, is this a better land, a more peaceful place than in our time?” asked Ba’al

Jared trembled with fear, “No my lord.”

“Then worry not, Jared. You shall be our the First among the Chosen. Let us Embrace you and I,” said Ba’al.

The swarm took off and rushed Jared. He screamed in terror and the mass poured down his throat. They tore the flesh from his soul and Jared was no more.

  9. Eww! Reminds me of the icky (and nonsensical) end of Beeman in “Constantine.” I also noticed that you added an extra “A” to Ba’al. Is the number of A’s reflective of the original versus the usurper? In that case, I think Baa’aal would like to have a word with you 🙂
