So the last day of the year has come at last. I would say a long last, but that would imply that 2012 was longer than any other year before it, which would be incorrect as it is a measure of time. And as it usual there is some sort of countdown of events. In no particular order:
1. Blog Stats
Here’s an excerpt:
4,329 films were submitted to the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. This blog had 17,000 views in 2012. If each view were a film, this blog would power 4 Film Festivals
No very impressive by the standards of the interwebs, but I’m glad to know a few folks stopped by.
2. Mass Disappointment
Of the Mass Effect 3 kind. Another over hyped game by me led to a massive personal disappointment. Oh, boy! It led to wailing, gnashing of teeth and worst of all, fan fic writing! I have made my peace with the product and learned a few valuable lessons about myself as a fan of any product.
3. Mysterious Illnesses
Off symptoms like headaches and colds that never went away struck the family this year. Most are the result of age, that countdown to the inevitable end. After a battery of tests, doctor visits and pill taking most of the family is still around (lost an aunt earlier in the year). So, while we sometimes ache, we celebrate those aches as a sign of life.
4. Of Cats and Dogs
Particularly these two:
Meet Macaulauy and Clive, the kings of the Shrewsday household. Then you have Willow Kitty and
Molly Buffy Pup who inject meaning into Emmie Mears home. Through these wonders of the domestic world and their companions I’ve learned so much about faraway places, from quaint English villages to lonely Scottish moors with tons of smiles along the way.
5. Enter the Brigadiers
I discovered Sci-Fi romance through Diane Dooley and through her the SFR Brigade. A wonderful collection of authors on the internet who support each other and help each other anyway the can. My kind of peeps. Romance and star stuff, who knew?
6. All the News I Could Not Stomach
From election cycles to economic cycles. From mewling politicians to screeching patricians, this was the year of rich gobshites complained bitterly about the help and idiots thinking the world was coming to an end. Good riddance to bad rubbish I saw.
7. Social Media
Last year it was Twitter, this year it was Tumblr. At first I “stumbled” *groan* around a bit, thinking this picture business was a waste of time but now I found a few followers, posted a few things and feel right at home.
8. Stories, Stories and More Stories
Fan fics, short stories, blog based serials and much more. On my third season of Wizards’ World War and counting. Interrupted by Real Life(tm) from time to time, but still chugging along.
Thank you to all the loyal followers and supporters in the year of Our Lord, Two-Thousand and Twelve.
All the best in 2013.
