I stumbled on this post while on Tweetdeck. Now the title is simple enough, but what really hooked me was the part that the author left out:

Setting the Scene (Through Dialogue)

The author describes a simple improv excersise to establish a scene using three pieces of dialogue.

And it works!

We (writers) tend to forget the power and importance of dialogue. Sure it can lead to info dumps and redundancies, but when done properly, it allows the characters to breath, the action to move forward and of course it can establish a scene in ways that mere description can not.

Just take a look at the examples on the post and you’ll see what I mean.
