My 30 Days of Writing-Day 23: It Never Ends

23. How long does it usually take you to complete an entire story—from planning to writing to posting (if you post your work)?

Well, when it comes to short stories, I write them on the blog and post them the very same day.

Novels on the other hand take quite a bit longer.

I’m averaging about 3 months for the first draft, although it make take me a year or more to finish with all the revisions (I start other projects between “cool down” periods). Took me about 3 years to truly finish the first book (and it still up for some revising/editing).

So the honest (if incomplete) answer is, that they are not finished yet, since I have yet to publish.

After all a work of art is not complete until it meets the public. The end lies where the mind of the creator and the audience meet.

I hope that changes in the near future.
