Good news….
I got the first of my Beta back!
Bad news….
I got a cold!
I find myself reading and rereading the assesment and while I can not find any fault in it, I do have to fight the urge to “defend” my work. I am grateful to the person who wrote it (a published author) and the positives outpace the negatives my a mile and a half, but I guess I wanted to be perfect, but alas, the Oprah Book Club will have to wait.
At least my life doesn’t suck as bad as Faye’s!
Click on the link. It will take you to a most excellent webcomic. Oh and thanks to all the commenters for your support. π
Well, shoot. I do hope you feel better! And don’t feel bad about the work still to be done: It’s a long road for each of us, just in different ways. Good luck!

Hey Ralfast,
First, hope you feel better.
And about critiques- always take several deep breaths so you can read the comments/advice objectively. Whether a beta is gentle or harsh- remember that they are trying to help you. And they wouldn’t push you to do better if they didn’t care. Of course, opinions will always vary, and ultimate decisions are up to you, the writer.
Much luck on the revision! π

And I wanted to add that in the last couple of months I’ve been critiquing leftywritey’s query letters. (and I believe she had someone else looking over them, too). Well, we drove her crazy. Everytime she thought she had it, we were there to tell her it needed work. I think she secretly wanted to kill us. Now she has two partial requests. π

Haven’t reach that stage yet. Will see what happens. But you’re right every little bit helps.
